How to build a read-it-later reading list in Notion

Updated · By the Fullclip team

To build a read-it-later reading list in Notion, make a database with four working fields — Status (To read / Reading / Done), Tags, Saved date and Summary — plus Name and URL, then fill it with a web clipper. Fullclip, a Chrome web clipper for Notion, saves an article in one shortcut (Alt+Shift+S) or a link from the right-click menu, marks new rows To read, and can add tags from your existing list plus a two-sentence summary. It also imports your Pocket export with tags and original save dates, so your old queue and new saves sit in one list.

Disclosure: we make Fullclip. Pocket and Notion Web Clipper details come from Mozilla’s announcement and Notion’s help center, checked on 2026-10-06, and linked below.

Fullclip never adds columns or Status options of its own: if there is no Status column with a To read-style option (To read, Unread, Want to read, Not started, Inbox), Status stays empty. Property types: Notion help: database properties.

Step by step: a Pocket-style queue in Notion

  1. Create the read-later database. Make a Notion database with Name, URL, Status, Tags, Saved and Summary columns. Status is a Select (To read, Reading, Done) or Notion’s Status property; Tags is a multi-select; Saved is a date; Summary is text. Fullclip can also create a “Fullclip Library” database with Name, URL, Tags, Summary, Site and Saved; add Status yourself.
  2. Connect Fullclip. Install Fullclip, connect your Notion workspace and pick the database. It matches Title, URL, Tags, Summary, Site and Saved date to your columns automatically; adjust any of them under Fields in its settings.
  3. Bring over your Pocket list. In Fullclip settings choose “Import from Pocket / Instapaper” and drop in your Pocket export (CSV or HTML). Each link becomes a row with its title, URL, Pocket tags and original save date; unread items are marked To read and archived items keep an empty Status.
  4. Save new articles for later. Press Alt+Shift+S on an article to save its full text into Notion, or right-click any link and choose “Save link to Notion” to queue it without opening it. New rows are marked To read and get the date you saved them.
  5. Triage with the summary. With AI on, each saved article gets tags picked from your existing Tags column and a two-sentence summary. Skim the Summary column in your To read view to decide what to read now, what to keep and what to mark Done.
  6. Read and archive. Read the saved article inside Notion, then set its Status to Done: it leaves the queue but stays in your library and in Notion search.

Pocket shut down on July 8, 2025, and exports closed on October 8, 2025 (Mozilla). If you kept your export file, import it once into the same database you clip into; duplicate URLs are skipped. The free plan imports 100 items; Pro imports the whole library. Why not just use the official Notion Web Clipper?

You can: it is free, made by Notion and works on phones too. For a read-later queue, Notion’s help center says tags can’t be added while clipping (“Not at the moment”) and that formatting varies from site to site; it does not describe importing a Pocket export (Notion help: Web Clipper). Fullclip fills Status, Tags, Saved and Summary as you save, and imports your Pocket list. Many people use both: Notion’s clipper on the phone, Fullclip on the desktop. Frequently asked questions

Can Notion work as a read-it-later app like Pocket?

Yes, with a database and a clipper. Notion gives you the list, filters, tags and search; the clipper fills it. Fullclip saves the full article into the page as native Notion blocks, so you can read it in Notion later, and (from version 0.1.2) marks each new row To read when your database has that Status option.

Which fields does a read-it-later database in Notion need?

Four do the work: Status (To read / Reading / Done) runs the queue, Tags groups it, Saved date sorts it, and Summary helps you decide what to read first. Add Name and URL for the title and source link, and optionally Site. Fullclip fills them all; you move Status on as you read.

Can I save a link for later without opening it?

Yes. Right-click any link and choose “Save link to Notion”. Fullclip adds a row with the link as a bookmark; open the article later and press Alt+Shift+S if you want its full text in Notion.

What happens to my unread and archived Pocket items?

Both are imported with title, URL, tags and original save date. With “Mark new clips as To read” on, items from your Pocket list get To read and items Pocket had archived keep an empty Status, so the queue starts with only what you had not read. The free Pocket to Notion converter also writes a Status column (Unread / Archived) if you prefer Notion’s own CSV import.

I missed the Pocket export deadline. Can I still start?

Pocket exports closed on October 8, 2025 (Mozilla). You can still build the list from scratch with the steps above, and import an Instapaper CSV export if you used Instapaper.

Is it free?

Notion’s free plan works. Fullclip’s free plan has unlimited full-page clips, 30 AI tag + summary runs a month and 100 imported items; Pro is $4.99/month, $39/year or $59 once for unlimited AI and imports.

Does it work on my phone?

Fullclip is a desktop Chrome extension. On iOS and Android, Notion’s official clipper saves from the share sheet (Notion help) into the same database, so mobile saves land in the same list.
